Ever find it difficult to know when your sugar cookies are ready to be taken out of the oven? After all, you don't want your sugar cookies to be brown and over baked. Well, I've created the perfect guide for you!
Do's
The edges and bottom should be golden (not dark brown). Look for a slight tint of brown. Think of a caramel color. To check the bottom of your cookie, you can flip your cookie over using a spatula. Be gentle to avoid breaking the cookie during this process.
The edges should be firm and the cookie should hold its shape. This means when you take the cookies out of the oven,
The top of the cookie should be blonde, but not pale. What does this mean? You want slight color in your dough. In other words, the cookies should be a different color than what they were when you put them into the oven.
You should be able to insert a toothpick into the cookies and have it come out clean. Look out for any crumbs or leftover batter on the toothpick.

Do Not's
Don't rely solely off of the cooking time the recipe gives you. Every oven works differently. To be safe and to avoid any oven malfunctions, rotate your baking pan halfway through the baking process so that the cookies that were in the back of the oven are now in the front of the oven.
Leave your cookies to sit for at least five minutes after you remove them from the oven. The cookies should still be slightly soft to the touch when they are removed. They will harden more at room temperature. Leave them be! (unless of course, you want a little taste test).
